Canberra Balloon Spectacular

The morning begins at Patrick White Lawns for the opening day of the Canberra Balloon Spectacular. Starting at 6:00 am, spectators can watch more than 40 hot air balloons inflate and lift off over the city skyline. This year features the Australian debut of 'Finley the Turtle,' a special shape balloon. Visitors can enjoy hot breakfast from local food trucks and coffee carts as the sun rises over the lake. Daily flight announcements are made at 6:00 am to confirm weather conditions for the launch.

Capital Region Farmers Market

For those looking for fresh local produce, the Capital Region Farmers Market at Exhibition Park (EPIC) is open from 7:00 am to 11:30 am. This Saturday features over 90 regional producers offering seasonal summer fruits, stone fruit, and hand-crafted gourmet goods. Skyfire 2026

The day’s main event, Skyfire, returns to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. Festivities kick off at 2:00 pm with the Southside Markets, food vans, and family entertainment. The evening ramps up with aerial displays before the massive pyrotechnic show begins at 8:30 pm. Over 40,000 effects will be launched from barges in the Central Basin, synchronized to a high-energy soundtrack broadcast on local radio. Free public transport is available from 5:00 pm to help attendees reach the lake foreshore.

Theater and Comedy

The entertainment continues into the night as the Canberra Comedy Festival takes over local stages. Highlights for Saturday evening include performances by comedians Akmal and Tom Cashman.
