Saturday in the Capital: A Feast for the Senses

Canberra is alive with activity this Saturday, 21 March 2026, as the city embraces the peak of the autumn event season. From the early morning glow of hot air balloons to the hum of boutique markets and the cheers of a craft beer festival, there is no shortage of ways to spend your day in the national capital.

Morning Glow: Canberra Balloon Spectacular

The skyline is currently being transformed as the Canberra Balloon Spectacular continues its week-long residency. For those willing to brave the early morning crisp air, the launch site at Patrick White Lawns is the place to be. More than 40 balloons are scheduled to inflate from 6:00 am and take flight shortly after 7:00 am. Keep an eye out for the Australian debut of "Finley the Turtle," a special-shaped balloon that is a highlight of this year’s 40th-anniversary celebrations. Hot breakfast and coffee are available on-site until 9:30 am.

Market Hopping: Handmade and Lakeside Delights

It is a significant weekend for shoppers as the first Handmade Market of the year opens its doors at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC). Running from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the market features over 260 designers and producers from across the country. Earlier in the morning, the Capital Region Farmers Market at EPIC also offers fresh local produce until 11:30 am.

For a scenic shopping experience, the Little Burley Market is hosting a special Balloon Spectacular edition today on Queen Elizabeth Terrace. Open from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm, it is the perfect spot to browse local crafts and enjoy gourmet breakfast bites while watching the balloons drift over the lake.

Afternoon Celebrations: Craft Beer and Cider Festival

The 19th Canberra Craft Beer & Cider Festival takes over the grounds of Mercure Canberra in Braddon today from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. This family-friendly event showcases over 250 craft beers, ciders, and spirits from more than 40 local and regional breweries. Attendees can enjoy live entertainment, gourmet food stalls, and interactive games throughout the afternoon.
