Official City Notice: Weekend Infrastructure and Service Updates

Welcome to the canberra.news official notice board for Saturday, 28 March 2026. As the city progresses through significant infrastructure renewals, several major transport disruptions and maintenance schedules are in effect this weekend. Residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead to avoid delays, particularly in the National Triangle and surrounding parklands.

Major Road Closures and Transport Alerts

The ACT Government has confirmed extensive closures along Commonwealth Avenue to facilitate Light Rail Stage 2A works and bridge deck construction. Please take note of the following traffic arrangements:

  • Commonwealth Avenue: A full closure is in place in both directions between Parkes Way and Vernon Circle. This closure will remain active until 5:00 am Monday, 30 March. Northbound lanes were closed earlier this week, and southbound lanes were shut on Friday night. Local detours are in place via London Circuit and Edinburgh Avenue.
  • Albert Street (East): The entry point at Albert Street East, which was closed for essential utility works, is scheduled to reopen at 6:00 am this morning, Saturday, 28 March.
  • Commonwealth Avenue Bridge: The northbound side of the bridge remains fully closed as part of the ongoing Bridge Renewal Project. Traffic continues to be diverted onto the southbound side, which currently accommodates both directions of travel. A 40km/h speed limit is strictly enforced through the work zone.

Parks, Sportsgrounds, and Waterway Safety

With winter sports preparations in full swing, there are several updates regarding local recreation areas:

  • Sportsground Closures: Most ACT Government turf sportsgrounds remain closed for seasonal maintenance and goal post installation. These facilities are scheduled to reopen for the winter season on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
  • Water Quality Alerts: Bargang and Yerra beaches remain closed to swimmers today due to elevated bacteria levels. Additionally, the swimming areas at Tharwa Bridge are currently deemed unsafe for primary contact. Residents are encouraged to check official water quality dashboards before visiting local lakes and rivers.
  • Nature Reserve Closures: In Namadgi National Park, the Woods Reserve campground is closed for a complete facility upgrade. In Tidbinbilla, the Hanging Rock walking track remains closed as crews finalize the replacement of the pedestrian bridge.
