Public Transport: Sunday Timetables for Good Friday

As today, Friday, 3 April 2026, is the Good Friday public holiday, Transport Canberra is operating on a Sunday timetable and frequency for all bus and light rail services. Commuters and holiday travelers should be aware that services will be less frequent than a standard weekday. If you are planning to attend religious services or community events, please check the latest journey planner to ensure your route is running as expected. Regular Saturday services will resume tomorrow, followed by another Sunday schedule for Easter Sunday and Monday.

City Center: Bunda Street and London Circuit Closures

Major construction projects in the city center continue to dictate traffic flow this long weekend. Road users are reminded of the following key disruptions in the CBD:

  • Bunda Street: The road remains closed between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing due to significant upgrade works. This closure is scheduled to remain in place until mid-April, with diversions clearly marked for local access.
  • London Circuit: The western side of London Circuit remains closed to regular traffic. Furthermore, Northbourne Avenue is reduced to two lanes each way between Alinga Street and Vernon Circle to facilitate the ongoing Raising London Circuit project.
  • Parkes Place East: A footpath closure is currently in effect for a concrete path upgrade, impacting pedestrians and cyclists in the National Triangle near the lake.

Major Arteries: Commonwealth Avenue and Monaro Highway

If your commute takes you across the lake or toward the southern suburbs, significant lane changes are in effect. On Commonwealth Avenue, northbound traffic has been reduced to a single lane from the Parkes Way on-ramp to Vernon Circle. These impacts are part of the critical bridge renewal and light rail preparation works and are expected to continue through late April.

To the south, the Monaro Highway upgrade is progressing with pavement construction. Motorists should expect temporary traffic lights for northbound traffic at the intersection of the Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. While construction crews may have reduced activity for the public holiday, the site remains an active work zone with reduced speed limits and lane narrows in both directions during off-peak periods.

Suburban Safety Works

Local road improvements are also underway in several suburbs. In Kambah and Watson, drivers may encounter temporary traffic management as part of the Pedestrian and Road Safety Improvement Program. This includes lane width reductions and the installation of new refuge islands. In Belconnen, path network improvements on Kuringa Drive are ongoing, requiring motorists to stay alert for changed conditions near construction signage.
