Public Holiday and Service Arrangements

Monday, 6 April 2026, is observed as the Easter Monday public holiday in the Australian Capital Territory. Residents are advised that most Access Canberra Service Centres, including specialized storefronts and the Land Titles Office, are closed for the duration of the day. Public libraries across the territory are also closed. Regular services will resume on Tuesday, 7 April.

Transport Canberra is operating on a Sunday/Holiday timetable for all bus and light rail services. Commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance as frequencies are reduced compared to standard weekday schedules. Additionally, following the conclusion of daylight saving on Sunday, 5 April, all residents are reminded to ensure their household routines have been adjusted to the return of Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

Major Roadworks and Traffic Disruptions

Significant infrastructure projects continue to impact traffic flow across the city center. The following official notices remain active for Monday, 6 April:

  • Commonwealth Avenue: Traffic is reduced to a single lane northbound from the Parkes Way on-ramp to Vernon Circle. This restriction is part of critical utility and track slab works for Light Rail Stage 2A and is expected to remain in place until late April.
  • Bunda Street: A full closure is in effect between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing due to ongoing streetscape and hotel precinct upgrades. Motorists should follow marked diversions via Akuna Street.
  • Monaro Highway: Ongoing pavement construction continues near the Lanyon Drive intersection. Temporary traffic lights are in place, and motorists should anticipate lane merges during off-peak periods.
  • Maintenance Activity: City Services crews are conducting mowing operations along Canberra Avenue and Captain Cook Crescent. Rabbit control measures are also active in the City Hill area; please observe all temporary safety signage.

Public Health and Environmental Advisories

ACT Health has issued the 2026 National Immunisation Program update. Seasonal influenza vaccines are now becoming available at participating GPs and pharmacies. This year’s program features a transition to trivalent vaccine formulations. Vaccination is highly recommended for priority groups, including children under five, pregnant women, and adults over 65, ahead of the peak winter season.

In environmental notices, Bargang and Yerra beaches remain closed to swimming and primary contact recreation. Recent testing has identified elevated bacteria levels, and the closures will remain in effect until water quality returns to safe margins. Residents can check the latest status of local waterways via official government dashboards.

Facility Notice: Albert Hall

The community is reminded that the historic Albert Hall is currently closed to the public and for event bookings. The facility is undergoing a major multi-month upgrade to transition its climate control systems from gas to electric. The hall is scheduled to remain closed for the remainder of the 2026 calendar year.
