Official Notice: Sportsground Reopenings and City Infrastructure Updates

Seasonal Transition: Sportsgrounds Reopen for Winter Play
As of Wednesday, 1 April 2026, the majority of ACT Government irrigated turf sportsgrounds have officially reopened to the public and sporting associations. These facilities were closed for a two-week renovation period to allow for essential winter sport preparations, including the installation of goal posts, line marking, and turf maintenance such as top dressing and fertilising. While most grounds are now available for the start of the winter season, some locations may continue to see minor maintenance crews on-site. Users are encouraged to check with their respective sporting clubs for specific training and match schedules.
Traffic and Road Infrastructure Alerts
Several major infrastructure projects continue to impact travel across the capital this Wednesday. Motorists and commuters should account for the following active notices:
- Majura Road and Fairbairn Avenue: Significant road closures remain in place at this intersection until Thursday, 2 April. Diversions are active, and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays during peak hours.
- Bunda Street (Civic): The section of Bunda Street between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing remains closed for ongoing upgrade works. This closure is scheduled to continue until Sunday, 19 April 2026. Pedestrian access to nearby businesses is maintained, but vehicle diversions are in effect.
- Commonwealth Avenue: Northbound traffic is currently reduced to a single lane from the Parkes Way on-ramp to Vernon Circle. This restriction is expected to remain in place until late April.
- Parkes Place East: A concrete path upgrade by the National Capital Authority has resulted in a footpath closure at Parkes Place East, scheduled to remain in effect until 10 April.
Environmental and Public Health Advisories
Following the conclusion of the 2025-2026 bushfire season on 31 March, the ACT Government has moved into the post-season recovery and planning phase. While the formal fire season has ended, residents are reminded to remain vigilant and follow standard safety protocols for any controlled burns. Additionally, the following health advisories remain active:
- Water Quality Alerts: Bargang and Yerra beaches remain closed to swimmers and recreational users due to elevated bacteria levels. The public is advised to avoid contact with the water until further testing confirms safe levels.
- Public Health: Health officials continue to monitor seasonal respiratory trends as the weather cools. Residents are encouraged to ensure their vaccinations are up to date following the recent transition into the autumn period.
