Public Notice: Autumn Maintenance and Infrastructure Updates

Official Public Service Announcement: Wednesday, 8 April 2026
The ACT Government and City Services provide the following roundup of active notices, infrastructure projects, and public health advisories for the Canberra region today, Wednesday, 8 April 2026. Residents and commuters are encouraged to review these updates to assist with travel planning and community awareness during the current autumn school holiday period.
Major Road Closures and Traffic Impacts
Ongoing infrastructure projects and road renewals continue to impact traffic flow across the territory. Key disruptions for today include:
- Bunda Street, City: A full closure remains in place between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing. This closure is scheduled to continue through Sunday, 19 April 2026, to accommodate major upgrade works. Diversions are clearly marked.
- Commonwealth Avenue: Northbound traffic remains reduced to a single lane from the Parkes Way on-ramp to Vernon Circle. These restrictions are part of the ongoing bridge renewal and light rail enabling works and are expected to persist until late April.
- Monaro Highway: Pavement construction continues at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. Motorists should expect temporary traffic lights and potential lane reductions during off-peak hours.
Municipal Services and Land Management
City Services crews are active across several regions today performing essential maintenance. Please adhere to all localized signage.
- Annual Mowing Program: Crews are currently operating along Canberra Avenue, Captain Cook Crescent, Sturt Avenue, and Jerrabomberra Avenue. Residents are advised to exercise caution when passing active mowing machinery.
- Rabbit Control Operations: Targeted pest management is underway in the vicinity of City Hill. Warning signs have been placed in the area; please keep pets on leads and follow all safety instructions.
- Gungahlin Improvements: Lighting installation and upgrades continue at Yerrabi Pond. While the park remains open, certain sections may be cordoned off for electrical works.
Public Health Advisory
ACT Health continues to monitor community health risks. Following a recently confirmed case of measles in the territory, health officials remind residents to ensure their Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccinations are up to date. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or a blotchy red rash is urged to call their GP or the Gungahlin Walk-in Centre ahead of arrival to prevent further exposure.
School Holiday Notice
We remind the community that ACT public schools are currently observing the Autumn break, which runs until 20 April 2026. Increased pedestrian activity is expected around local parks, shopping centers, and libraries. Drivers are urged to remain vigilant in residential zones.
