Public Notice: Canberra Essential Services and Infrastructure Updates

Official City Notice: Easter 2026 Waste and Recycling Schedule
The ACT Government has issued a reminder regarding upcoming changes to waste and recycling services due to the Easter public holiday period. As Good Friday falls on 3 April 2026, all household bin collections scheduled for that day have been moved to Saturday, 4 April 2026. Residents are requested to have their bins on the kerb by 7:00 AM on the rescheduled date. Regular Thursday collections occurring today, 2 April 2026, remain unaffected. Additionally, please be advised that the Mugga Lane and Mitchell Resource Management Centres will be closed on Good Friday, while the 24/7 recycling drop-off centres in Belconnen, Mitchell, Gungahlin, Phillip, and Tuggeranong will remain accessible throughout the holiday break.
Traffic Management and Road Infrastructure Projects
Motorists are advised of several active road projects and closures impacting travel across the capital today:
- Majura Road: Traffic diversions at the intersection of Majura Road and Fairbairn Avenue are scheduled to conclude today, 2 April 2026. Commuters should expect standard traffic flow to resume following the completion of these works.
- Bunda Street: The closure between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing remains in effect as part of ongoing upgrade works. This section is expected to remain closed to through traffic until Sunday, 19 April 2026.
- Commonwealth Avenue: Northbound traffic continues to be reduced to a single lane from the Parkes Way on-ramp to Vernon Circle. This arrangement will persist throughout the month to facilitate bridge renewal and infrastructure maintenance.
- Dunlop Playground: Site preparation is complete at the Dunlop playground. Pending suitable weather conditions, container installation for the new toilet facilities is scheduled to take place today, Thursday, 2 April.
Sportsgrounds and Parks Maintenance
Following the conclusion of winter preparation maintenance, the majority of ACT Government turf sportsgrounds have officially reopened for public and club use as of Wednesday, 1 April 2026. Maintenance crews have completed the installation of goal posts and line marking across various regions, including Woden, Gungahlin, and Belconnen. However, several park facilities remain closed for long-term upgrades:
- Namadgi National Park: Woods Reserve campground remains closed until mid-2026 for a complete facility overhaul.
- Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve: The Hanging Rock walking track is currently closed for pedestrian bridge replacement, with works expected to wrap up in the coming days.
- Gibraltar Falls: The viewing platform and associated walking tracks remain closed for safety infrastructure improvements.
Public Health and Environmental Advisories
ACT Health is encouraging residents to begin booking their 2026 seasonal influenza vaccinations. Funded vaccines under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) are now becoming available for eligible groups, including children under five, pregnant women, and those with specific medical conditions. Environmental monitoring also indicates that Bargang and Yerra beaches, along with the swimming area at Tharwa Bridge, remain closed for primary contact today due to elevated bacteria levels. Residents should avoid swimming or internal consumption of water in these areas until further notice.
