Public Notice: Enlighten Festival Traffic Management and Long Weekend Health Advisories

Enlighten Festival Road Closures and Transport

The ACT Government has implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan to facilitate the Enlighten Festival. Residents and visitors are advised that several key roads within the National Triangle will be closed nightly from 5:00 pm until midnight through Monday, 9 March 2026. Specific closures active for Sunday, 8 March include:

  • King George Terrace (between Parkes Place East and Parkes Place West)
  • King Edward Terrace (between Parkes Place East and Parkes Place West)
  • National Library of Australia internal loop road
  • Queen Elizabeth Terrace (between Parkes Place East and Parkes Place West)
  • Parkes Place West (north of King Edward Terrace)

For those attending 'Symphony in the Park' this evening, a free shuttle bus service will operate between the City and the Enlighten Festival Hub starting at 5:00 pm. Following the performance, dedicated return services will depart from Commonwealth Avenue (near Regatta Point) between 9:30 pm and 10:15 pm, providing transport to the Belconnen, City, Woden, and Tuggeranong interchanges.

Public Health and Park Safety Alerts

ACT Health reminds the public to remain vigilant following a recent measles alert. Today, Sunday, 8 March, marks the final day of the recommended monitoring period for individuals who may have been exposed at the Gungahlin Walk-In Centre or the Canberra Hospital Emergency Department on 18 February. Residents who develop symptoms such as fever, cough, or a blotchy rash should contact their GP or a health service immediately, ensuring they call ahead to notify staff of potential exposure.

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service has also updated its water quality advisories. The following sites remain closed to swimmers until further notice due to poor water quality:

  • Casuarina Sands
  • Cotter Campground
  • Kambah Pool
  • Murrays Corner
  • Swamp Creek

Additionally, the Gibraltar Falls viewing platform remains closed for safety infrastructure upgrades, and Old Well Station Road in the Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve is closed to pedestrians and cyclists.

Community Consultations and Public Holiday Reminder

Today is the final day for the community to provide feedback on the Landcare ACT strategic plan survey. Furthermore, the ACT Government continues to seek input on the draft Nature Conservation Strategy 2026-2036. Residents are encouraged to share their views on the ten-year vision for Canberra's natural environment via the YourSay website before 23 March.

As a reminder, tomorrow, Monday, 9 March, is the Canberra Day public holiday. While most essential services will remain operational, residents should anticipate changes to standard business hours and public transport schedules.
