Public Notice: Essential Road Changes and Infrastructure Updates for March 25

Official City Notice: Transport and Road Safety
The ACT Government has issued several critical updates regarding the Canberra road network effective Wednesday, 25 March 2026. Motorists and public transport users are advised to review the following changes to ensure safe and efficient travel:
- Uriarra Road Speed Limit Reduction: Effective from today, Wednesday 25 March, the speed limit on Uriarra Road has been permanently reduced to 60 km/h. New signage is in place to alert drivers to this safety improvement.
- Commonwealth Avenue Lane Closures: As part of the ongoing Light Rail Stage 2A works, Commonwealth Avenue southbound will be reduced to a single lane between Parkes Way and Albert Street (east) starting tonight at 8:00 PM. These restrictions will remain in place until early tomorrow morning.
- Bus Service Disruptions: Transport Canberra confirms that Bus Stop 4415 in Belconnen will remain closed until the final service this evening. Commuters are advised to use alternative stops as indicated on service maps.
- Ongoing Roadworks: Significant diversions continue at the intersection of Majura Road and Fairbairn Avenue. Additionally, Bunda Street remains closed between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing for essential upgrades.
Infrastructure and City Maintenance
Major infrastructure projects are reaching key milestones this week. While many works are scheduled at night to minimize disruption, residents should be aware of active sites across the city:
- Molonglo River Bridge: A significant concrete pour on the northbound carriageway of the new bridge is scheduled for today. While no direct traffic impacts are expected, heavy machinery will be active in the area.
- Sportsground Maintenance: All ACT Government irrigated turf sportsgrounds remain closed today as part of the biannual renovation period. Crews are currently installing goalposts and top-dressing fields in preparation for the winter season, with grounds scheduled to reopen on 1 April.
- Mowing and Horticulture: Municipal mowing crews are active today in O’Connor and Turner, as well as along major corridors including the Federal Highway and Melbourne Avenue.
Public Health and Community Safety
The ACT Health Directorate and Parks ACT have released the following safety advisories for late March:
- Death Cap Mushroom Warning: Following recent inspections, a public health alert remains active regarding wild mushrooms. Canberrans are reminded that it is never safe to pick or eat wild mushrooms found in the ACT, as toxic Death Caps are currently in season and can be fatal if ingested.
- Prescribed Burns: Under the Bushfire Management Plan, prescribed burns may be conducted at Mt Taylor and Denman Prospect over the coming days, weather permitting. Residents in nearby suburbs should keep windows closed if smoke is present.
- Pest Control: Rabbit control operations are currently underway at Grevillea District Park. Please follow all on-site signage and keep domestic animals on leashes.
