Road Closures and Transport Disruptions

Residents and commuters are advised of significant traffic changes active this Friday, 13 March 2026. The most notable disruption is the full closure of Coppins Crossing Road between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue. This closure, necessitated by ongoing construction for the Molonglo River Bridge project, is scheduled to remain in effect until 6:00 pm tonight. Motorists traveling between Whitlam and Denman Prospect should utilize the Tuggeranong Parkway as an alternative route.

In the city center, Bunda Street remains closed to through traffic between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing due to essential precinct upgrade works. This closure is expected to continue through mid-April. Additionally, intermittent lane closures and speed reductions are in place along Commonwealth Avenue as part of the bridge renewal project. Southbound lane closures will persist through the end of the month.

  • Public Transport: Route 47 services are currently diverted due to the Coppins Crossing Road closure. Passengers should allow for additional travel time.
  • School Services: Dedicated morning and afternoon school services are operating to connect Evelyn Scott School to Whitlam and Belconnen via the Tuggeranong Parkway.

Infrastructure and Maintenance Works

The National Capital Authority (NCA) and City Services continue several maintenance programs across the territory. The Concrete Path Upgrade Program is active at various locations across Canberra today, which may result in temporary footpath closures and detours for pedestrians. Residents are asked to follow all posted signage and maintain a safe distance from active work zones.

Along Barrine Drive, traffic is reduced to a single lane beneath the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. "Stop and go" arrangements are currently managed by traffic controllers to support heavy machinery movement for the bridge renewal project.

Public Hearings and Official Notices

The Joint Standing Committee on Migration is holding a public hearing today, Friday, 13 March, at Parliament House. The inquiry, focused on the value of skilled migration to Australia, will take place in Committee Room 1R3 from 8:30 am to 12:20 pm. This hearing includes testimony from various government departments regarding regional economic needs and future migration programs.

Community Events and Public Safety

The 83rd National Sheep Dog Trial Championships continue today at the Hall Showground. Visitors are reminded that increased traffic is expected around Gladstone Street in Hall throughout the weekend. For those attending, please use designated parking areas to avoid obstructing local access.

Health officials also remind the public to stay informed regarding cardiovascular health following yesterday's ministerial briefing. Women, in particular, are encouraged to consult their healthcare providers regarding heart health screenings as part of a new national awareness initiative.
