Official City Roundup: Infrastructure and Public Services
The ACT Government and relevant directorates have issued the following official notices and public service announcements for Thursday, 12 March 2026. Residents and commuters are advised to plan ahead and adhere to all posted signage and health directions.
Road and Transport Disruptions
A significant road closure commences today as part of the Molonglo River Bridge project. Motorists and public transport users should be aware of the following:
- Coppins Crossing Road: Full closure is in effect between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue from 2:00 am today. This closure is scheduled to remain in place until Friday evening, with a weather contingency through Saturday.
- Public Transport Impacts: Route 47 bus services are currently diverted. Special school-only services have been arranged to connect Whitlam and Belconnen via the Tuggeranong Parkway to accommodate affected students from Evelyn Scott School.
- City Center Works: Bunda Street remains closed between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing for ongoing streetscape upgrades. Additionally, maintenance works at the Old Parliament House carpark and lanes are scheduled for completion today.
Public Health and Safety Alerts
ACT Health and City Services have issued alerts regarding local waterways and community health:
- Water Quality Warnings: Several swimming areas are currently closed to the public due to elevated bacteria levels. This includes Bargang, Bimbi, Yerra, Dulwa, and Nengi Bamir beaches, as well as the swimming areas at Cotter Campground and Murray’s Corner. Residents are urged to avoid contact with the water in these locations until further notice.
- Health Advisory: Authorities remind the community to remain vigilant following a recent measles case alert. Public health officials recommend ensuring vaccinations are up to date and monitoring for symptoms if you have recently visited high-traffic public areas.
City Maintenance and Environment
The annual autumn maintenance program continues across various districts:
- Mowing Schedule: Crews are active today in Barton, Downer, Lyneham, Watson, and Yarralumla. In the western districts, mowing is underway in Chapman, Farrer, Pearce, and Stirling.
- Pest Control: Targeted rabbit control operations are being conducted at Grevillea District Park to protect local biodiversity.
Community and Heritage
Today marks a significant cultural milestone for the capital. The Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) is unveiling a historic 1913 painting, The Federal Capital Site, Canberra, to coincide with the 113th anniversary of the city’s founding. The artwork will be a permanent fixture in the 'Canberra/Kamberri: Place and People' exhibition starting today.
