Transport and Infrastructure: Major Route Closures

The ACT Government has issued an urgent transport notice regarding significant road closures and traffic disruptions scheduled for Thursday, 26 March 2026, as part of the Light Rail Stage 2A construction and the Raising London Circuit project. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and allow for additional travel time.

  • Commonwealth Avenue Northbound: A full closure of Commonwealth Avenue northbound will commence at 8:00 PM on Thursday, 26 March, between the Parkes Way on/off ramps and Vernon Circle. This closure will remain in place until early Monday morning. Detours are available via the Parkes Way on-ramp to Lawson Crescent and Edinburgh Avenue.
  • Commonwealth Avenue Southbound: A double lane closure will be implemented on the southbound side from the Parkes Way on/off ramp to Albert Street East starting at 8:00 PM Thursday. Only a single lane will remain open to traffic.
  • Bunda Street: The ongoing closure of Bunda Street between Genge Street and Scotts Crossing remains active for streetscape upgrades.
  • London Circuit East: Motorists are reminded that sections between Northbourne Avenue and Theatre Lane remain closed to general traffic, though bus and delivery access is maintained via Verity Lane.

Health and Safety: Autumn Bio-Hazard Warning

ACT Health has reissued a public health alert regarding the growth of wild mushrooms across the Territory. As the autumn season progresses, environmental conditions in the Canberra region have become conducive to the growth of the Death Cap mushroom (Amanita phalloides).

Authorities remind residents that it is never safe to pick or consume wild mushrooms found in gardens, parks, or nature reserves. Death Cap mushrooms are often found near established oak trees and can be fatal if ingested. ACT Government teams are currently conducting inspections of known growth sites across the city as a precautionary measure. If you suspect you have eaten a wild mushroom, seek urgent medical attention at a hospital emergency department.

Community Services and Public Events

Several community-focused programs and upcoming major events have released notices for Thursday, 26 March:

  • Lifeline Canberra: An 'Accidental Counsellor' training session is scheduled to begin today, 26 March, at the Denman Village Community Centre. This two-day program provides essential skills for community members to support those in crisis.
  • Relay For Life 2026: Final registrations and fundraising notices have been issued for the 27th annual Relay For Life, which takes place this coming weekend (March 28-29) at the AIS Track and Field Centre.
  • Digital Health Record (DHR): The ACT Government has published the inaugural DHR Benefits Realisation Yearbook, highlighting that over 271,000 Canberrans now have active digital health accounts to manage appointments and test results in real-time.
