Public Service Announcement: Enlighten Festival Road Closures

As the Enlighten Festival continues through the weekend, the ACT Government and National Capital Authority wish to advise residents and visitors of nightly road closures within the National Triangle. These closures are active each evening until Monday, 9 March 2026, to ensure the safety of pedestrians attending the architectural projections and creative installations. Motorists should anticipate detours around King Edward Terrace, Parkes Place, and adjacent streets. Additional traffic delays may be experienced near Exhibition Park on Saturday, 7 March, due to a large-scale event scheduled at the venue.

Infrastructure and Traffic Advisories

Ongoing maintenance and major projects will continue to affect traffic flow across the territory this Saturday:

  • Commonwealth Avenue Bridge: Partial bridge closures remain in effect as part of long-term structural works. Please adhere to the reduced speed limits and signage.
  • Old Parliament House: The carpark and a portion of the access lane are currently closed for essential maintenance. This closure is expected to remain in place until mid-March.
  • Old Well Station Road: Upgrade works at the Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve mean the road remains closed to all walkers and cyclists. Access is expected to be restored in April 2026.

Health Advisory: Water Quality and Swimming Closures

Canberra Health Services and City Services have issued alerts regarding poor water quality at several popular swimming locations. High levels of bacteria have been detected, and the following areas are closed to swimmers until further notice:

  • Casuarina Sands and Swamp Creek.
  • Point Hut Crossing and Murrays Corner.
  • Yerra Beach and the swimming area at Tuggeranong Town Park.

The public is advised to avoid primary contact with these waters to prevent illness. Monitoring is ongoing, and updates will be provided as conditions improve.

Park Maintenance and Conservation Updates

City Services crews are conducting routine maintenance this weekend to manage the territory's green spaces. Residents may notice mowing operations in Ainslie, Barton, Deakin, and Dickson. Additionally, rabbit control programs are active at City Hill and Grevillea District Park. For those planning weekend trips, please note that the Woods Reserve campground and the Gibraltar Falls viewing platform remain closed for facility upgrades and safety improvements.

Community Consultation: Climate Change Strategy

The ACT Government encourages all residents to participate in the ongoing community consultation for the 2026–2035 Climate Change Strategy. Feedback is being sought on adaptation priorities and emissions reduction. The consultation period remains open until 18 March 2026, with details available through official government engagement portals.
