National Multicultural Festival Hits Its Peak

The heart of the city is pulsing with energy today as the National Multicultural Festival reaches its final day of celebration. Running from Garema Place through to Glebe Park, the festival transforms the Canberra CBD into a global street party featuring more than 170 multicultural communities. Visitors can spend the day exploring hundreds of stalls offering authentic international street food, while multiple stages host a non-stop program of music, dance, and cultural performances. It is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the traditions and flavors of the world right here in the nation's capital.

Creative Workshops and Family Fun at CMAG

As part of the festival festivities, the Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) is acting as a sanctuary for families seeking a mix of culture and calm. From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the museum is hosting a range of free activities. Early risers can enjoy a family-friendly concert with the ANU Chinese Classical Music Ensemble at 10:30 am in the CMAG Theatrette. Later in the afternoon, the Twilight Theatre presents 'Journey to Mictlan,' a captivating shadow puppetry show based on a 600-year-old Mexican legend, with performances at 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm. Throughout the day, kids can enjoy face painting and a multicultural explorer trail through the various galleries.

The Lifeline Bookfair at EPIC

For those who prefer to spend their Sunday hunting for literary treasures, the massive Lifeline Canberra Bookfair is concluding today at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC). Open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, this is the region's largest gathering of book lovers. The pavilions are filled with an enormous range of fiction and non-fiction, including rare collectables, sheet music, records, and children's books. It is the perfect place to find a bargain while supporting local crisis support services. Entry is by gold coin donation or a quick 'tap and go' at the door.

Sunday Markets and Major Exhibitions

The traditional Canberra Sunday market circuit is in full swing today. The Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston are running from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm with a timely 'International Crafts and Food' theme to mirror the city's festive mood. Meanwhile, the Haig Park Village Markets in Braddon provide a leafy alternative from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, perfect for a morning stroll among fresh produce and artisan stalls. For art enthusiasts, today marks the final chance to see the 'Hot Tropics' collection display at the National Gallery of Australia. Nearby, the National Museum of Australia continues to host the high-energy 'Hallyu! The Korean Wave' exhibition, exploring the global influence of South Korean pop culture from music to fashion.
