Official Public Notice: Road Closures, Health Alerts, and City Service Updates for Friday, 6 March

Official Traffic and Transport Advisory
ACT Policing and the ACT Government advise residents of significant traffic disruptions scheduled for Friday, 6 March 2026. Due to an official guest of government visit by the Prime Minister of Canada, motorcade activity may impact travel times between 8:00 am and 9:00 am. Major delays are expected on arterial roads leading to and from Canberra Airport, as well as throughout the Yarralumla and Parliament House precincts. Commuters are urged to follow police directions and allow for substantial travel time.
- Adelaide Avenue: Guardrail maintenance works conclude today, 6 March. Intermittent lane closures remain in effect.
- National Triangle: Road and carpark closures are active each evening as part of the Enlighten Festival. Localized disruptions will continue through 9 March.
- Footpath Program: The city-wide concrete path upgrade program concludes today at various locations; please remain alert for temporary signage and path diversions.
Public Health and Safety Alerts
ACT Health and City Services have issued the following advisories regarding local waterways and road safety:
- Waterway Closures: Recent testing has identified elevated bacteria levels. Bargang, Yerra, Dulwa, and Nengi Bamir beaches are currently closed to swimming. Additionally, the swimming area at Tuggeranong Town Park remains closed until further notice.
- Orroral Road Speed Limit: Motorists are reminded that the speed limit on Orroral Road has been permanently changed to 80 km/h from Boboyan Road to the Namadgi National Park entry.
City Maintenance and Works Schedule
Crews from Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) are conducting essential works across several suburbs this Friday:
- Road Resurfacing: Asphalt patching and resurfacing are underway in Acton, Ainslie, Deakin, and Fyshwick.
- Street Sweeping: Intensive cleaning is scheduled for Braddon, the City, Dickson, and the Kingston Foreshore.
- Horticultural Maintenance: Mowing and pruning operations are active in Aranda, Bruce, and along the Monaro Highway.
Community Events Notice
The Enlighten Festival continues today with the signature event Lights! Canberra! Action! taking place in the Senate Rose Gardens. This short film festival is free to the public, with screenings beginning after dusk. High pedestrian traffic is expected in the Parkes area; visitors are encouraged to use public transport where possible.
