Transport and Infrastructure Updates

The ACT Government is advising residents of several significant transport disruptions and infrastructure projects currently underway across the city. Effective Saturday, 31 January 2026, the following notices are active:

  • Erindale Drive Safety Works: Crews are currently installing road safety barriers on Erindale Drive. This project commenced on Friday and is expected to continue through the weekend. Motorists should anticipate minor delays and are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling through the work zone.
  • City Bus Interchange Closures: Platforms 1, 2, 3, and 4 at the City Bus Interchange remain closed today as part of ongoing city transformation projects. These platforms are scheduled to remain offline until Sunday, 1 February. Commuters should refer to temporary signage for alternative boarding locations.
  • Maintenance and Litter Collection: Mowing and path maintenance are currently active in the suburbs of Garran, Phillip, and Whitlam. Additionally, litter collection efforts are concentrated along Eucumbene Drive, John Gorton Drive, and Lady Denman Drive today.

Public Health and Safety Advisories

Local health authorities and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) have issued the following alerts for the final weekend of January:

  • Total Fire Ban: Due to prevailing weather conditions and extreme heat, a Total Fire Ban is in effect for the Australian Capital Territory today, Saturday, 31 January. Residents are reminded that no fires may be lit in the open air and all permits for fire use are suspended.
  • Swimming Area Closures: Water quality testing has indicated high levels of bacteria at certain locations. Consequently, the swimming areas at Bimbi and Yerra beaches remain closed to the public until further notice.
  • Counterfeit Melatonin Alert: The TGA has issued a safety advisory regarding imported, counterfeit, and unregistered melatonin products currently circulating. Consumers are urged to only purchase therapeutic goods through authorized pharmacies.
  • Heatwave Safety: With extreme temperatures impacting the capital, health officials recommend staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during the peak of the day, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and relatives.

Community Consultation and Planning

Canberrans are invited to participate in several open government initiatives and planning processes:

  • Climate Change Strategy: Consultation is now open for the draft 2026–35 Climate Change Strategy. The government is seeking feedback on building a resilient, net-zero territory. Residents can share their views on how climate change is affecting their daily lives via the YourSay portal through mid-March.
  • Big Splash Lease Notice: The Territory Planning Authority has issued a formal notice to the lessees of the Big Splash Waterpark regarding potential lease termination. This follows the site's failure to reopen as a public facility within the required timeframe.
  • 2026-27 Budget Consultation: The annual budget consultation process remains active. Community members and industry groups are encouraged to provide submissions regarding social and economic priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.
