Official Community Update: Wednesday, 4 March 2026

The ACT Government and City Services have issued several updates regarding infrastructure projects, public safety measures, and maintenance schedules active across the capital for Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Residents are encouraged to take note of changed traffic conditions and localized service notices.

Roadworks and Traffic Changes

A significant permanent traffic change takes effect today, 4 March 2026. The speed limit on Orroral Road has been officially adjusted to 80 km/h for the stretch from Boboyan Road to the entry of Namadgi National Park. Motorists should remain alert for new signage in the area.

  • Enlighten Festival: Nightly road closures remain in place across the National Triangle through to 9 March. Drivers should expect diversions and increased pedestrian activity in the area from 5:00 pm daily.
  • Sutton Road Bridge Repairs: Major strengthening work begins this month on five bridges along Sutton Road. Expect single-lane closures and temporary traffic lights as crews work to replace or repair existing structures.
  • Resurfacing: Asphalt patching and resurfacing works are currently focused in Acton, Ainslie, Deakin, and Fyshwick. Daytime path maintenance is also scheduled for Higgins, Holt, Page, and Chapman.

Parks, Lakes, and Recreation

City Services crews are conducting essential maintenance in public green spaces. Mowing operations are currently active in Ainslie, Barton, Dickson, Yarralumla, and Bruce. Specialized rabbit control measures are also being carried out at City Hill and Grevillea District Park.

  • Water Quality Alerts: Following recent monitoring, several swimming areas are closed due to elevated bacteria levels. This includes Bargang, Yerra, Dulwa, and Nengi Bamir beaches, as well as the Tuggeranong Town Park swimming area.
  • Facility Closures: Woods Reserve campground and the Gibraltar Falls viewing platform remain closed for major infrastructure and safety upgrades, with reopening expected in mid-2026.

Health and Community Safety

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has issued a safety advisory regarding counterfeit imported weight loss products. Residents are advised to check official health channels for product batch details and avoid purchasing medications from unverified online sources.

Additionally, the ACT Government has released a new discussion paper regarding a proposed ban on 14 single-use plastic items, including plastic soy sauce bottles and produce stickers. Community feedback is currently being sought on these environmental reforms.

Public Service Announcements

The Emergency Services Agency (ESA) is hosting "Ignite" during the Enlighten Festival. This immersive bushfire simulation at the National Triangle is designed to help residents understand fire behavior and improve household preparation. Nominations are also now open for the 2026 ACT Resilient Australia Awards, recognizing local efforts in disaster preparedness and recovery.
