Official Notices for Wednesday, 4 February 2026

The following public notices and service announcements are active for the Canberra region today. Residents and commuters are advised to review these updates to ensure safety and minimize travel delays during ongoing infrastructure projects and seasonal weather conditions.

Transportation and Road Closures

Significant roadworks continue across the capital as part of the Light Rail Stage 2A project and Molonglo Valley development. Please note the following impacts:

  • Commonwealth Avenue: Southbound lanes near Parkes Way remain reduced to a single lane. This restriction is expected to stay in place until 31 March 2026 to facilitate essential bridge works. Motorists should expect delays during peak hours.
  • Molonglo River Bridge: Coppins Crossing Road, between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue, will be closed starting tomorrow, 5 February. Preparatory signage is in place today. The closure is required for a major concrete pour on the bridge deck.
  • City West Detours: Intermittent lane closures continue on London Circuit East between Commonwealth Avenue and Constitution Avenue. Access to the ANU and New Acton remains available via diverted routes.

Health and Environmental Alerts

The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) has issued several advisories for Wednesday, 4 February, due to summer weather patterns:

  • Heatwave Warning: A severe heatwave warning remains active for the ACT. High temperatures are forecast to persist through the week. Health officials advise residents to stay hydrated, seek air-conditioned environments, and check on vulnerable community members.
  • Fire Danger Rating: The fire danger rating for the Canberra region is currently set to 'High.' Residents in bushfire-prone areas should review their survival plans. A Total Fire Ban is not currently in effect but may be declared if conditions deteriorate.
  • Water Quality: Residents are reminded to check current lake alerts before swimming or using watercraft, as high temperatures can increase the risk of blue-green algae blooms in Lake Burley Griffin and Lake Ginninderra.

Public Service and Governance

Several administrative and financial updates take effect today:

  • RBA Interest Rate Change: Following the Reserve Bank of Australia’s announcement yesterday, the new cash rate target of 3.85 percent is effective as of today, 4 February 2026.
  • Grant Deadlines: Several federal and territory medical research grants, including those for the Australian Brain Cancer Mission and Genomics Health Futures, have a closing deadline of 5:00 PM today.
  • Multicultural Festival Preparation: Setup has commenced for the National Multicultural Festival (6–8 February). Expect increased pedestrian activity and localized parking restrictions in the CBD and Glebe Park.
