Official Public Service Announcements for Sunday, 15 February 2026

Canberra residents and visitors are advised of several significant service changes, road closures, and health advisories active this Sunday. The following roundup details official notices from the ACT Government and municipal services to assist with weekend planning and safety.

Major Road Closures and Traffic Impacts

Extensive work on the Light Rail Stage 2A project continues to impact central traffic. The following closures remain in effect through Sunday:

  • Commonwealth Avenue: A full northbound closure is in place between Parkes Way and Vernon Circle. This closure will remain until 5:00 am Monday morning. Detours are available via Vernon Circle and Edinburgh Avenue.
  • Parkes Way: The westbound ramp to Commonwealth Avenue southbound is currently closed. Motorists are advised to utilize London Circuit East as an alternative route.
  • Barton Highway: Resurfacing works will commence Sunday evening at 7:00 pm between Bellenden Street and Gundaroo Drive. Expect lane closures and reduced speed limits until 6:00 am Monday.
  • Yarralumla Maintenance: Asphalt patching is scheduled for Alexandrina Drive (between Weston Park Road and Novar Street) from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and Pescott Lane from 8:00 pm into the early hours of Monday.

Health and Environmental Advisories

Public health officials have issued the following notices regarding local waterways and healthcare protocols:

  • Yerra Beach Closure: Access to Yerra Beach remains restricted. The beach is currently closed to the public due to elevated bacteria levels. Residents are urged to avoid primary contact with the water until further notice.
  • ADHD Medication Changes: Patients and healthcare providers are reminded that new mandatory requirements for "Canberra Script" are now in effect. All prescriptions for stimulant medications must be generated and tracked electronically through the updated system to ensure compliance with Chief Health Officer approvals.

Public Space and Facility Maintenance

Routine maintenance and infrastructure improvements are affecting the following municipal sites:

  • John Knight Memorial Park: The water feature and pond remain deactivated for seasonal maintenance. Works are expected to continue through late February.
  • Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre: Evening pavement resurfacing is occurring outside of normal operating hours. While the facility remains open during the day, visitors should be mindful of heavy machinery and changed surface conditions near the entrance.
  • Urban Control: Signage is currently in place near London Circuit and Vernon Circle for ongoing rabbit control operations. Residents are asked to keep pets on leads and observe all posted safety notices.

Community Events and Notices

The city notes several public gatherings that may increase pedestrian activity in specific zones. The Haig Park Village Markets celebrate their 5th anniversary today with live performances and reptile displays. Additionally, the Canberra Bach Ensemble will perform at St Christopher's Cathedral in Forrest at 2:00 pm. Parking in the vicinity of these venues may be limited.
