Security Alert: Increased Police Presence and Protests

ACT Policing has issued a public safety advisory for Wednesday, 11 February 2026, due to a significant scheduled police operation. A highly visible police presence will be established across the city, particularly within the Parliamentary Triangle, to manage expected protests coinciding with the official visit of the President of Israel. Authorities respect the right to peaceful assembly but have warned that extra resources are on hand to ensure public safety. Commuters should expect significant traffic disruptions on roads leading to and from Canberra Airport and around the Parliamentary Triangle throughout the day. Travelers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys to avoid missing scheduled flights.

Road Closures and Traffic Impacts

  • National Multicultural Festival: Today, February 11, marks the final day of temporary road closures associated with the National Multicultural Festival in the City. Drivers are urged to remain cautious as festival infrastructure is dismantled and normal traffic flow begins to resume late this evening.
  • Athllon Drive: A reduced speed limit of 40km/h remains in effect between Drakeford Drive and Vosper Street. This measure is necessary for ongoing utility services works, which are expected to continue through late February.
  • Monaro Highway: Motorists are reminded that northbound traffic near Hume has been switched to the eastern side of the new Dog Trap Creek Bridge. Two lanes remain open during peak periods, but drivers should follow all directional signage.

Parks, Waterways, and Environment

Public service maintenance is currently impacting several local recreational areas:

  • John Knight Memorial Park: The park’s water feature and pond have been turned off for seasonal maintenance. These facilities are expected to remain offline until Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
  • Water Quality Advisory: Yerra Beach is currently closed to swimming and primary contact activities due to high levels of bacteria. Residents are advised to check official water quality dashboards for updates before visiting lakes or ponds.
  • Rabbit Control: New control operations are scheduled to commence late this week in the northwestern grasslands between London Circuit and Vernon Circle. Signage will be placed in the area to alert the public.
  • Ongoing Closures: Woods Reserve campground and the Gibraltar Falls viewing platform remain closed for major facility upgrades and safety infrastructure improvements, with reopening expected in mid-2026.

City Services and Infrastructure

Mowing and maintenance crews are active across the territory. Scheduled mowing is taking place today in Ainslie, Dickson, Griffith, Hackett, Narrabundah, and Red Hill, subject to weather conditions. Infrastructure projects continue at the Fassifern Dam and Charnwood netball courts, where stormwater pit replacements are underway to improve local drainage. Residents in Yarralumla may also encounter minor delays due to localized asphalt patching on residential streets.
