Official Traffic and Transport Alerts

ACT Policing has issued a high-priority traffic alert for Thursday, 5 March 2026, regarding significant disruptions expected across the capital. Due to a guest of government visit, rolling road closures and motorcade movements will impact major thoroughfares from 8:00 am Thursday through to 9:00 am Friday, 6 March. Commuters should anticipate delays on roads leading to and from Canberra Airport, as well as throughout Yarralumla and the Parliamentary Triangle. Residents are advised to allow extra travel time, particularly those with scheduled flights. Police remind motorists to obey all directions, remain patient, and avoid illegal maneuvers such as crossing median strips or verges.

  • Gibraltar Falls Speed Limit: Effective today, 5 March 2026, the speed limit near the entrance to Gibraltar Falls has been permanently reduced from 70 km/h to 60 km/h. Similar reductions on Uriarra Road toward Denman Prospect are also being implemented this month to enhance visitor and driver safety.
  • Enlighten Festival Closures: Nightly road closures remain in effect within the National Triangle for the Enlighten Festival. King George Terrace and King Edward Terrace are closed between Parkes Place East and West from 4:00 pm until midnight. These restrictions will continue until 9 March.
  • Infrastructure Projects: The ACT Government confirms that early works for the duplication of William Hovell Drive and Athllon Drive are underway. Motorists are reminded to observe temporary speed limits in construction zones near Tuggeranong and the western suburbs.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Monitoring

ACT Health continues to monitor community exposure sites following a confirmed measles case in a returned traveler. While the immediate risk at these locations has passed, health officials urge residents who visited the Hertz Car Rental at Canberra Airport on the evening of 16 February to remain vigilant for symptoms until Friday, 6 March. Symptoms include fever, runny nose, sore eyes, and a non-itchy red rash. Residents who are unvaccinated or unsure of their status are encouraged to contact their GP for a free MMR vaccine.

Community and Environmental Notices

The ACT Government has released a new discussion paper regarding the potential ban of 14 additional single-use plastic items, including coffee cup lids, produce stickers, and soy sauce 'fish' containers. Feedback from businesses and the community is open via the YourSay Conversations portal until 1 May 2026. This initiative is part of the territory's ongoing commitment to reaching net-zero emissions and reducing landfill waste.

Additionally, nominations are now officially open for the 2026 Resilient Australia Awards. This program recognizes local individuals and organizations that have contributed to disaster preparedness and community safety. Submissions are encouraged from schools, community groups, and local businesses involved in risk reduction projects.
